PEFAC - Portal for Environment and Forest in Central Africa

This internet portal constitutes a real digial library for the PFBC member network and any other stakeholder looking for information and up-to-date research articles: it offers free access to more than 2000 digialised reports in the field of environment and forest management in Central Africa.

Access and use of PEFAC is totally free and not restricted to any sort of financial condition. Neither is it necessary to subscribe to the website if you just want to browse for documents. It is however preferable to set up a - free- account if you want to receive documents on your email address.

The FORINFO project and portal's origins

The FORINFO project, or more precisely its component named "support to new technologies" has initiated the creation of the PEFAC portal and is now responsible for its maintainance. FORINFO is an environmental project supported by the French agency for cooperation, which concerns the sub-region of the Congo Basin. The countries concerned by the project are Cameroon, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Centralafrican Republic, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Sao Tomé and Principe. It aims at contributing to the development of training capacities and to constitute a sort of "competency tank".

The global objective is to improve natural resouce planning and management by providing up-to-date information about environmental matters to the different actors within the region and beyond. 


The working tools

  • A lexical engine allows for a valid and fast search over the whole set of documents.
  • Another engine allows for searching documents by chosing specific categories: author, country, type, publisher and year.
  • An exctractor offers a search by key words that comprises not only document titles but the document's content (pages)
  • An explorer allows for navigation on the first screen of each one of the documents.
  • With the "basket" tool, uses can store selected pages, extracts and documents. You can also send the basket's content to an email-address, thus retrieving your choice of documents to your local computer. 

Any document can be viewed in three different formats:  : pdf, word and image file.
