Welcome to CBFP's new member: Forest Stewardship Council
The Forest Stewardship Council International Center (FSC IC) has the objective to promote the conservation and sustainable management of the worlds forests, inclusing the Congo Basin's forest ecosystems. If forests should be considered as being responsibly managed, the FSC has a long and proven trackrecord. The organisation is open and willing to share experiences with other members, in order to achieve Forest certification within the countries of the CBFP.
According to FSC's Executive Director, André de Freitas, "the Congo Basin is a key region in FSC’s efforts to promote responsible forest management worldwide, and the focus of several FSC initiatives. We are pleased to be a member of the Congo Basin Forest Project (CBFP) and to collaborate towards common goals for the protection, safety and growth of African forests. Working together we can ensure the existence of well managed forests that are environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable; forests that support a just society, thriving communities and maintain the splendor of the region and its people. We will respect the framework and we will promote the implementation of the COMIFAC Convergence Plan through concerted action wherever possible and within our avaiable resources."
