Capacity Building for Forest and Environmental Schools
As part of the German development co-operation with the COMIFAC, the German agency InWEnt (the acronyme stands for: capacity building international), works in close partnership with the network of Central African forestry and environmental training institutions (RIFFEAC) in view of reinforcing the capacity of the schools and universities providing education and advanced trainings, key activities in the implementation of the COMIFAC Convergence Plan .
The collaboration between InWEnt and RIFFEAC started in December 2008 with a study trip in Germany. During this event, participants of the Congo Basin sub-region visited several schools and universities. In 2009, this collaboration was reinforced through a series of train the trainers workshops. Each time, more than 20 professors and teachers took the opportunity to learn, exchange experiences and develop methods of knowledge transfer adapted to their institutions. The first workshop on "Teaching Methods and Participative Approaches" was held in August 2009 at the InWEnt conference center in Leipzig-Zschortau (Saxony) in Germany. The second event on "Forest Certification" took place in October 2009, at the ENEF of Cape Esterias, Gabon. The third seminar concerning "Climate Change and the Forestry Sector: adaptation and REDD" just came to an end at the CRESA Forêt-Bois in Yaoundé/Cameroon (November 9-22).
The workshops were prepared and implemented by ECO Consult in close cooperation with CBFP-members. For more information, please kindly contact the program manager, Mr. Heiko Heidemann (heiko.heidemann@inwent.org).
