The German facilitation (2008-2009) makes headway
The official facilitation transfer from France to Germany has been organised as part of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership's 5th plenary session on October 25th and 26th in Paris. The warm and convivial atmosphere proved to be a perfect setting for a moving ceremony that was further distinguished by the presentation of the joint Franco-German evaluation of the CBFP's impact since its inception. Encouraged by the support and advice expressed by various partners and the Minister from Chad, the new German facilitator Hans SCHIPULLE in his closing address joined the fighting spirit of optimism put forward by the guest of honor, Nobel Prize Laureate W angari WAATHAI: Failure is not an option!Since October, the German facilitation team (comprising, in addition to the Facilitator, Deputy Facilitator Samuel MAKON and Coordinator Herbert CHRIST) has given priority to finalising the facilation's road map for 2008-2009, relaunching the partnership's website as a bilingual platform for communication and exchange between members, and submitting a strategy for enhanced coordination of activities in the region.

The partnership's website, relaunched on April 15th, has already registered quite a lot of positive feedback. It features a revised design and new content elements that may eventually evolve into an online dialogue forum for the partnership. To avoid frequent circulation of emails with large attachments to the partners, we have begun posting documents and messages sent in by the partners in dedicated sections for news, events and documents. We would like to thank all members who have already contributed to the website's interactive content! At a later time, the pages reserved for "working topics" and working groups may allow partners to post documents and information directly and could develop into topic-related forums for registered members. Finally, this information bulletin is an integral part of our communication strategy striving to "fully develop CBFP's coordination potential and to emphasise its role as a forum for dialogue among all the stakeholders of the forest sector".
Enhancing coordination of partner activities: on-going discussions
Are you familiar with the German proverb from the forestry sector, "da, wo gehobelt wird fallen auch Späne" (literally: where you plane wood, shavings fall to the ground)? Unfortunately, the English and the French prefer to use a different image, referring to culinary activities: you cannot prepare an omelette without breaking eggs! The ongoing discussion concerning the facilitation's proposal to group partners around specific working areas, with the interest to help improve the coordination of activities in the region, has shown once again the force of our partnership's as a non-binding network: Every members is asked to express his/her opinion in an open dialogue, and each opinion is considered by the community of CBFP partners. And you can be sur e that, in the end, we will enjoy together a well-prepared omelette!
